Singing cheers me up

Everyone has to find some way to break the funk. For some people it’s a punching bag for others it’s a hobby of some kind. However the one thing I find that most people can relate to is music. There’s music for just about every mood out there and you can always find that song that just speaks to you and lets you know that you’re not alone in the world when you feel a certain way. For the lovelorn there are scores of heartbreak rock songs, country ditties, or hip hop joints (and yes, even emo has its place), the blues, or “come back to me” songs. For the cheerful there’s always a jaunty tune — my personal favorites are the great crooners like Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. — and for the other in between there’s jazz, folk, classical, rockabilly and punk. Whichever type of music you may listen to, there’s something in it that you can relate to.
Another great thing about music is that in the event that there are no songs on your radar that fit your mood, you can always write your own! It doesn’t have to be a magnum opus of brilliance as long as you can write down what you feel and express it. Hell, it doesn’t even have to rhyme or be played on a traditional instrument! You can even do away with instruments completely and maybe keep time on an upturned paint bucket. You just need to listen to some 1 minute punk songs and you’ll get the picture fast.
Perhaps it’s easier said than done and coming from me that may be the case since I’m Singy McSingerpants. Besides, your outlet of expression (see the Holy Trinity of Happiness) may not even be music to begin with but I can bet that there’s still a song out there for you. As for me music is my catharsis. In particular, I like to sing and perform, but you knew that already. These days most of my singing is done at Tequila Sunrise at #Loserkaraoke but give me a chance to sing and most of the time I will be there. Don’t expect a private show though, unless you’re very special to me. I’m not your trained monkey
So the other week Sean, Corey, Kat and I went to the CNE and there was a Band-Aid singing booth there. In an earlier post I said that at some point they would open up the polls for voting for the new Band-Aid jingle singer. So…they’ve opened the polls and I need your vote!! If I win I get 10,000 dollars in travel certificates and lord knows I could use them for some serious good! maybe I will take one of you with me!
In return here’s something I made for you because you’re ALL special to me (see what I did there?) !! It’s a song I helped write and perform with my long time friend and the McCartney to my Lennon. He would like to remain anonymous but I guess I can’t really hide my involvement since it’s on my blog. So finally here, for your listening pleasure, is “Morningwood”

There you go! Don’t say I never did anything for you! Just do me a favour and don’t listen to this through crappy laptop speakers with no bass. Pump that bass dammit! Now click below to go to the Band-Aid site and vote for me. Share with all your friends and get them to vote!!
