Soundtrack to the TIFF #Rockon

Amidst all the dinners, parties, and films that TIFF is known for, it’s a nice change of pace to take in a good old fashioned live concert. Being a music buff primarily, I was excited to that ClubStellaArtois.com gave me the opportunity to catch some familiar acts such as Hawksley Workman, City and Colour and Tokyo Police Club while also discovering some new ones: The Racoons and Creature. Whoever said Canadian musicians were not up to par must never have been to a live show from these artists. In the intimate setting of the Roosevelt Room (called the Festival Music House for the duration of the TIFF) these Canadian artists entertained and enchanted an ever growing crowd. Despite the crowd chatter, which was pointed out by a decidedly ornery cameo appearance by K-OS, the acoustics and sound mixing were surprisingly sharp. One may as well have been listening to a pitch-perfect CD. Have a look at the video for some snippets of the evening’s acts crooning their way into the hearts of a packed house.

After the Festival Music House we were off for a quick jaunt to the YouTube party at Brassaii. The party was not filled with YouTubers as one would have expected or hoped. The only thing that even resembled anything YouTubey was all the branded YouTube pillows and a motorcycle with a green screen behind it. Yes, I put the jacket on and got on the damn bike. Click here to see the stupid video. Anyway it was fun as always to hang out with Braden and Brock over a few gallons of unlimited drinks. Of course, as you know me, I drank responsibly. For all you star watchers: there was a celebrity sighting of Canadian actor Keanu Reeves. Sorry, no pictures of Keanu! His goon squad of body guards would not allow it! That’s Hollywood baby.

I took some photos of the fabulous bands last night though and arranged them into CD covers for you! Download them, print them out and make your own little mix-CD from your iTunes! And, because I love you, I cobbled together some video highlights of the bands at the top of this post!
