No Rain at Nuscabana - michaelnus

I just want to say thank you to all the great people I’ve met since I returned to Toronto. On Sunday I invited a few close pals over to my home to take part in birthday festivities at the increasingly infamous NusCabana. For those of you who have graced me with your presence there you know how much fun it can be there just to hang with friends and eat tasty food by the pool. It’s nice for a change to be surrounded by people I know in the social media community without feeling the need to carry my business card on my person.MichaelNus birthday cake

Perhaps it’s a personal failing or just a by-product of my European upbringing, but I tend to be a very doting host when people are over at the Cabana. Even on my birthday I was at the grill throwing everyone’s num nums on the fire and serving it back at them piping hot. I don’t view it as me being a slave horse, I just enjoy cooking and I would hate to see a piece of meat go to waste because, let’s face it, most people have no idea what they’re doing at the grill. But really it’s more because I was raised to honor my guests by being hospitable. Honor my home and I will honor you in return.

#Broforce arrived in, well, force. For those of you that don’t know, Jeremy, Randeep, Jon and myself comprise the four pillars of #Broforce and that counts for a lot. We’re thinking of making either T-Shirts of Decoder rings to signify our memberships. Jon is Broforce North, Randeep is East, Jeremy is South, and I am West. It would be really cool if we could summon a “BroBot” named “BroTron” to battle evil and adversity. Although I think we would be a lot more successful if we could ice each other just a little less. Jeremy brought a cooler full of Smirnoff Ice and you can bet that a bunch of people at NusCabana felt those frost their throats as they chugged them down. Smirnoff should seriously pay us to advertise for them since we buy so much of their product and generally have a fun time with them. I should have pitched them at the Smirnoff Experience party the night after Nuscabana.

Perhaps there is some sort of latent power in inviting good friends over to celebrate the life of one amongst their midst. The weatherman was damned sure there was supposed to be a thunderstorm that evening, but it mysteriously never came. In preparation for the storm I did everything I could to make the party happen by hook or by crook. I moved the time to 3 hours earlier and even went out and bought a bunch of umbrellas for my guests while hoisting open the large patio umbrellas at #NusCabana in defiance of the weather gods. Nothing they could have thrown at me short of a Tornado would stop me from entertaining my guests. Now I’m stuck with a pile of umbrellas and some wonderful gifts from my friends. Their friendship.

The shindig lasted till a bit after midnight and people kept arriving until the very end. Much appreciation for the scotch and cigars and the great food everyone brought along. Thou knowest me well.

So what’s next for Nus? Well I am still fighting the uphill battle that is gaining admission into law school. Truth to tell, it’s been a real pain in the ass as the US school that have accepted me are obscenely expensive, which means I gotta go to the bank with my hat in my hand asking for a loan to the tune of $90,000 – and that’s just to cover tuition for 3 years! I am secretly hoping and praying that U of Ottawa takes me off the wait list. I got into that school too but this year they have had a ton of applicants so I have to wait and see. It would make my life about 100,000, 000 times easier if I just could go there. Plus I would be only a train ride away from the city and people I love so much here in Toronto. I ask that you all send me positive energy so the powers that be grant me final admission to U of Ottawa Law. That’s my birthday wish this year.

Although I do have a few alternatives in a “worst case” scenario. (1) Go to California Western in the Spring (I got in there too) (2) Stay in Toronto and be awesome on the social media scene as I reassess, work, volunteer and maybe take the LSAT one more time (shudder).

I want to be able to use my legal education and/or life experience to come back to Toronto and make this city even greater. What say you? Michael Nus for mayor 2015?

Stay tuned for my update on the Bon Jovi concert, courtesy of @cellguru and @clickflickca. Outstanding gentlemen! And stay tuned even more for the dirt on why I wear mirrored shades 85% of the time, rain or shine.
